Andrew Gowdown Elected President of the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina Board of Directors

Andrew D. Gowdown February 8, 2024

Andrew Gowdown, a managing partner at Rosen Hagood, has been involved with the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina (BIASC) for several years. At the start of 2024, he stepped into a new role as the President of the Board of Directors.

As a personal injury attorney who frequently works with survivors of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families, Andrew is well aware of the many challenges that arise in the aftermath of a brain injury. He joined BIASC because he wanted to do more to help support individuals who have suffered a TBI and to educate others about the importance of brain injury awareness and prevention.

BIASC has been helping survivors of brain injuries, their families, caretakers, and professionals for 25 years. It is the only nonprofit organization in the state that is dedicated to supporting adults and children with brain injury. BIASC offers various resources to members of the community, including a toll-free helpline, facilitation of statewide support groups for survivors and their families, conferences and training for both survivors and healthcare providers, as well as timely information about brain injury through a website, newsletter, and social media outlets.

In addition, BIASC leads several noteworthy projects like the SC Visibility Project, which provides brain injury information to patients and their families at the state’s level 1 trauma centers, the SC Brain Injury Safety Net Project, which supports children with traumatic brain injuries, the Unmasking Brain Injury Project, in which survivors create masks to help tell their stories, and the SC ThinkFirst Injury Prevention Project which teaches children how to avoid brain and spinal cord injuries.

Andrew looks forward to the opportunity to support and uphold BIASC’s mission to create a better future for the citizens of South Carolina through brain injury prevention, research, education, and advocacy. As president, his goals are to continue to raise awareness, help to achieve recurring funding from the South Carolina legislature, and to make a difference in the lives of people impacted by brain injury.
